Light, Camera, Action By Sue W

| An activity that could be adapted to fit your purpose is something I called "Royal Reader" with second graders. You could set it up like a news desk, a Reading Rainbow type show, or some show business type theme. I had a chair decorated as a throne and a shiny crown. Kids signed up to read a story to the group. It was schedule with no more than 3 a day. Each had a set time and several days if they wanted to invite someone "special"; a parent, the principal, the much loved custodian. They practiced ahead of time and then at their assigned time they were on the throne. I would help with story selection but the kids practiced ahead. They were very proud and did well. Because they could choose their own story they were more involved. Even the shyer kids got carried along when they saw other do it first.
