Congrats on your new job whether it be 1st or 2nd grade! Team teaching has many advantages... someone to plan with, bounce ideas off of, share the subject content with so that both teacher don't have to plan all areas of
content (the number one advantage!). However, it also has its drawbacks. For example, if your philosophy of teaching and learning is based on integration, it is somewhat harder to do if you team teach in a manner that requires switching classes. Then you are under somewhat of a time constraint and can't pursue teachable moments as much. The key to whether or not teaming is successful is
definitely the makeup of the team!! The two teachers must have similar styles of management and philosophies of teaching. Like I said, both have advantages,so just celebrate having your own classroom and the rest will work out!
