job fairs By been there

At the typical job fair, you have about 10-15 mins to spend with the school rep. Not many spend the time looking at portfolios, especially the typically huge things that the universities have the students make up. If you have some favorite lessons with pictures, put them into a small binder and have it handy. The last fair I went to, I skipped the "paper work" and just brought in a mini photo album. Only 1 of the 6 people/schools I talked to even lokked at it. If you have letters of recommendation, be sure to include them! They always look for these! A lot of the schools in my area are now doing |
| applications on-line. Even if you come to the job fair & have to hand them a paper resume, they still want that on-line application as well. Rumor had it that some schools (supposedly) had a policy that if they couldn't match up a paper resume to an on-line application/resume, you weren't even considered. Some of the schools flat out indicate that they MUST have an on-line application in order for you to even be considered. Check this out with the schools you're interested in. They require an appearance/application at the fair as well as an on-line one, or they may accept just on-line applications. Good Luck! I have applied to 5 counties and haven't heard a thing yet!
