Security
By Grace

Clip to ScrapBook
We also have security to get into the school building which I think is a good thing as we used to get some unsavoury characters wandering about the school, sometimes just there to steal whatever they could find. I'm happy
with it as a few years ago I returned to my classroom after the children had gone home, after only being out for 5 mins when i closed the door I saw an adult figure lying across the chairs behind the desks. I do have a panic button, but it was on that side of the room. I moved back and slipped out the door for help, shaking all over. It turned out to be one of our troublesome past pupils,
grown up now and very drunk. He was led out peacefully but it was frightening that no one had seen him come in. What was also weird was that he was lying where he used to sit when he was in my class in Year 4!!
Yesterday we also had a security incident. We have a code to get into our staffroom. At the end of the first lunch session the staff who were in there couldn't get out no matter how hard they tried. The door had to be broken down before they could escape. Their sense of humour was still intact as they were trying to decide who they would eat first if they were there for the weekend.
Security is a pain, but a necessity. A month before Sept 11, I stood in line behind an American woman in Heathrow airport London. She was furious about the security there and was vowing not to travel that way again. Better safe than sorry!
