auction
By Kim

Clip to ScrapBook
On of the teachers at my school does an auction at the end of the year. When kids are squirrely at the end of the year, she gives them "check book registers" and she deposits money for good behavior or on time work. She auctions off things she's bought and toys she's confiscated from kids all year long. Before she does the auction she talks to the kids about relative value and opportunity cost. She auctions off one thing at a time and the winner brings up their check book register and she subtracts the withdrawl. She says it is lots of fun and a lot of the kids who lost their toys don't even want their own stuff back and they don't bid on their own stuff.
