Multiplication facts By Debbie

We do a program where I teach in that we study the facts for 6 weeks and they know all their multiplication facts through the 11's. We 1st start with teaching these rules: 1 times any number is that number, 0 times any number| is 0, 10 times any number is that number with a zero after it, and 11 times any number ( 1-9 ) is that number doubled. These rules are written and posted at the front of the classroom. We go over these rules and then we start learning 6 facts a week. They have worksheets every day over those week's facts and they have timed tests every week to be sure they are practicing at home. Each | | test adds the facts from the week before so they have to learn them or possibly fail the tests each week. We also use flashcards daily to help out with those children that don't get help at home.A letter is sent home to parents informing them of the need of their help to study with their child. This note requires their signature saying they will help. They are also taught that 6 x 8 is the same as 8 x 6 ,so we don't have to teach unnecessary facts, they know this as the reversal rule. I could send a copy of the entire program to you which could explain it all better if I had your school's address, but I understand completely if you don't care to do that. Maybe this will be enough for you to get an idea of what to do. If you do want program sent, send your school's address to my email address and I will get it out to you.
