Pokemon is trash in your pocket
By Poke-me-not

Clip to ScrapBook
My second graders are "horrified" with Pokemon, espcially those who are not cleaning up after themselves, leaving trash everywhere in the cafeteria and classroom. I told them at the beginning early on that it is important
to keep an organized and clean learning environment (even though I'm somewhat unorganized . I encourage them to avoid joining the "P-Club": Pigsty, Pokemon and Pencil-Peddling. There are consequences for being a member. Pokemon, for example, means bad news for them. When I see their trash, I'd say, "I spy some trash so very near you... Is it Pokemon or Pokechoo? " That means they need to
quickly clean after themselves and have a choice of voluntarily putting away trash in the bin or putting that dirty stuff in their pocket (hence Pokemon), shoes or bookbag. The trash is to remain in their pocket or bookbag until dismissal time. (Sometimes I check at the end of the day.)

I had no parent complaints about this scheme. My students detest it (with excitement) whenever I play Pokemon. Most students mentioned Pokemon when they reflected their year with me!
