Just got back By Julianne

I took my first graders to our zoo on Wednesday. I won five small digital cameras (not really good ones, but HEY!) so the kids took photos around the zoo as was suggested above. Part of our core is studying Australia, so we targeted animals from that country. It was very successful. The kids really concentrated on understanding the informational signs in front of each exhibit and are now looking forward to writing about their photos.

Another thing I've done with older kids is have them make lists (or photos) of animals in different categories - mammals, birds, reptiles, etc.
