Will you alternate groupings several times during the year or will they always be in the same group?
I usually change my seating arrangement every other Friday. The kids love this because they always get to sit by someone new. It gives some of the "unpopular" kids a chance to get to know the others and make new friends. I was just curious. I do like this idea. I may look for some bookshelves at garage sales this summer. You could also use low three drawer chests for extra storage in your room. Good idea....
