yes, it's bad

Clip to ScrapBook
I'm in San Diego and there isn't one district here that isn't sending out pink slips! They are even cutting back on support staff like school nurses, aides, and bus drivers. (Never at the administration level naturally.)
Plus several districts are redefining their 20-1 ratio for Kindergarten. Instead of 2 separate classes ( morning and afternoon) they have 20 students come in the morning around 8:15 a.m., the other 20 arrive around 10 a.m., so it becomes 40 at once with one teacher! There is a whole group time, they have recess and lunch together. Then around 12:45ish the first group goes home and the
second group stays. It is very strange and not really an optimal learning environment for a while. But they only have to pay one teacher, and maybe an aide if they are lucky! The prep time is gone! They are also "averaging" the class sizes to meet the 20-1 ratio so if you are lucky you might get 18 or 19 students or you could have 22 or 23students.
