I agree...video
By Dave

Clip to ScrapBook
I agree. Use the video, and use it soon. You can tell the students you are using it to improve your own teaching. That's what I did about 6 years ago. I had THE EXTERNALIZER: a boy who would say he didn't do something,
even though it was very obvious he had. I really got to the point where I felt like he believed himself.
The video was SO helpful. When he hit a student or anything, I had him come in at recess. I had the video cued up to spots I wanted him to watch.
Amazingly, this finally stumped him. In the beginning, he would watch himself hitting someone, but state, "I didn't do that."
"What? You didn't do it?"
This boy had such an entrenched "lie about everything," he believed himself. Long story short, the video broke him of that habit. None of the other parents ever complained about a video being on because I didn't ever make a big deal about it.
Also, the students forgot it was there after a few hours. Then it just sat in the corner, sometimes off, sometimes on (I placed tacky wall adhesive over the video's light that would blink while filming, so there was no clue whether it was on or off.
The last poster's idea is a great one. Use it. The power of video...it doesn't lie.
