How about breaking the hour into 15 or 20 minute increments and having a different activity planned for each session?

Some ideas:
oral reading practice
reading game, working on whatever he needs help with
finding sight words in newspapers/magazines
worksheets for whatever he's struggling on
computer game...again on what he struggles with

that's all I can think of for now....hope this helps!!
