Jip By Kathy

It's a great book by Katherine Patterson telling the story of a young boy who was found by the side of the road as a toddler. Since no one knew where he came from and some thought gypsies had left him, they called him "Jip."| He grows up on the town's poor farm. One day a mysterious stranger comes by and says that he may be able to tell Jip where he came from. Not sure how much else to tell you as I don't want to spoil the story for you. It has great characterization--and a warm bond between Jip and the town idiot. Exciting story that moves right along. Good historical fiction--set in the mid | | 1800s.Does have some "adult" themes with his parentage and some violence so I don't think I would try this book with anyone younger than middle schoolers. You would want to read it first anyway to make sure it was right for your class.
