You're doing the right thing to start looking now, but keep in mind that districts often don't know their needs until summer. Sometimes people will wait until then to announce retirement, family plans, etc. So don't stress too much. I have had several teaching jobs in two states, and I was never hired earlier than July (but that was partly because of my own schedule). Three times I was actually hired after the school year had begun. (I had six jobs in seven years-military wife!). I suspect most districts are just starting to determine their needs for next year. So relax and take the time to learn about the districts that interest you so that you can make an informed choice. And good luck!
