I personally think more than one warning a day is too much. They get a "reminder" (verbal warning), then they sign my red book. That gives them a lunch detention (no talking at a table by themselves). I teach 5th grade, though. If I taught younger grades, I would have them sign the book and lose 1/2 of their recess. Then at the end of the day I would send home a sheet with a smiley face (no warning), straight face (verbal warning), or frowny face (signed book) - depending on which level they ended up on. After 5 frowny faces in one month, they get an office referral. That's much easier to keep up with than cards.
