We;ve had a color flip system at our school for years and it works very well, esp. with the younger students. Ours is just a bit different from the others mentioned.
Students start the day on green. Breaking a rule causes them to "flip" to yellow (warning). Another infraction = orange (lose 15 min of recess-stand against wall)3rd infraction = red (lose all 30 min of recess-stay in DT), 4th infraction= blue (they must call a parent); 5th flip = purple (go to principal). This is a school-wide system which helps to make it effective. Also, students may skip steps for very serious incidents. At the end of each week our students get a BRC (behavior report) card which has a stamp for each day they stayed on green and lists any rules broken each day. These must be signed and returned. At the end of the month we count up those points and they use them as dollars to spend at the school store, sponsored by our PTA.
