    A couple of comments

    I do not use the above system but depending on how it is handled it may work well for some teachers and their classrooms.

    I would assume that each warning would mean the student has been given a different colour card. Grade 1 students would quickly pick up what each card means.

    A five minute time out is an eternity to a grade 1 student. I use this type of time out frequently and it does make a difference.

    For younger grades I do feel there needs to be some progression for punishment as the students are in the process of learning proper behaviour and we can't always expect 5,6 even 7 year olds to always follow the rules perfectly. As students get older then there should be less progression through punishments but still opportunities for second chances.
