    Tenure in Alabama
    By Kasi

In Alabama, to get tenure, you have to be hired back for the fourth year as a certified teacher. (If you change districts, the count starts over.) If you don't have tenure, it is much easier to be let go (especially in years like the last few here...major funding cuts--where I live, in a small rural system, we are using 56 teaching units!) your contract is only good for a year. After tenure, you are given the benefit of due process. They have to give a reason of why you are being let go. Usually, it's something pretty drastic that you have to do then to get fired. Some states don't have tenure.
