color codes

Clip to ScrapBook
I use a color code system, except I don't give so many opportunities for misbehavior. The system that the original poster is required to use is too soft, I think. I give a warning by placing a clothes pin with the child's
name on the warning chart. The second infraction results in the clip being moved down to half of recess, which is 10 minutes. The third infraction results in the child's clip being removed to "all of recess," with the remaining 10 minutes being taken away. The fourth infraction results in the child writing a letter to his/her parents to tell them what he/she has done wrong and how
he/she plans to improve in the future. I send severe problems to the office.

The system I use helps the kids visualize their progress in behavior. However, it doesn't prevent the kids from acting out if they feel like it. Kids, even the older ones I teach, sometimes only think for the moment. It's fun now, they might think, to goof around. Then when recess time comes and they have to sit in detention, well, they really regret it. I sure do wish kids would think of consequences BEFORE they act out, not after.
