breaking up/handling a fight
By Anna

Clip to ScrapBook
I am a full-time teacher. I have taught in grades K-8. My advice is not to get in the middle of it unless you want to get hit yourself. Kids get so heated up that they are just swinging wildly, and they wouldn't even notice
or care of they accidentally got you. I have had big boys with some degree of sense step in and grab one of the fighters and put him in a headlock to stop him. I have also pressed the call button and called for an administrator. When I worked in middle school, the advice from teachers was just "to let them fight." I think that's a horrible suggetion. What those teachers wanted
was for the kids to get suspended. I think that all fighting should be reported to the office. In our school, kids who fight are suspended for a minimum of one day.
