Clip to ScrapBook
Wrap up a present, can be a book, stuffed toy, anything cute or interesting - from a thrift store and then make raffle tickets. These can be just pieces of paper. Show the beautiful present at the beginning of the day and
explain the concept of a raffle, that you will be giving tickets to those who listen, follow directions, etc, work hard. Then at the end of the day, you will pick out one name for winner. Talk to them about feelings of disappointment etc. Teach them to say congrats to the winner, we are happy for you. Maybe they will have better luck next time. I have taught for a while and am also
subbing kinder. They all love this. I have enough books to be able to make up several prizes. Also, intersperse carpet, circle time with activity times. Have a "who can be the quietest contest" and pick someone to get a sticker. Or it can be the quietest table group. Read lots of interesting story books. If the teacher has music cds for singing kid songs, use those too. email me for more ideas. I am subbing for three days in two k half-days next week. I know there are some noisy challenging boys so I'm ready to give them extra attention and positive reinforcement first! Good luck.
