Scott Foresman DWR is great!
By Joy

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi Debbie,

I have been using the Scott Foresman DWR for two years now. I love teaching DWR and my kids have fun with it! I try to make this learning experience fun.

Each of my students have a 3 subject notebook for DWR.
We are still using the same notebook that we started with on the first day of school. It's great to look back at all the activities that we have completed.

Here is how I manage this:

* I do not use the BIG flip chart. I feel that it limits the possibilities. I write each activity on the board and the students copy them. (Refer to the activities in the back of the teacher manual.)

Sometimes I copy the activity exactly and other times I modify it to make it more challenging for my students. If the activity calls for one answer, I challenge my students to give me as many as they can. After we complete an activity we draw a line and skip a line to separate the 3 activities.

Here is how I organize my week:

Monday:
Spelling Pretest
DWR Day 1
Introduce Target Skill
Read the Skill Lesson Text
Build Background with the tape
Discuss and Build Vocabulary
Practice Skill & Vocabulary in practice book
Grammar Review Page

Tuesday:
DWR Day 2

Review Spelling
Introduce new grammar skill
Assign leveled skill practice

Wednesday:

Leveled Readers

Friday:

I hope this helps some! If you need more information, please do not hesitate to email me. I don't have all the answers, but I'd love to help. Good Luck! If you do try this, you won't regret it!
