Personally I think it's a good idea By Cathy-Dee

Too often especially in larger schools there are teachers and staff who stay loners or become isolated because they never feel like they belong. As well you can also have too many groups that just associate with themselves.| While I think it's fine for a teacher to skip out from time to time when they have to prepare for a special lesson, etc., most days they could easily eat their lunch in the staff room. I love our staff room, our lunch hour is spent discussing what we watched on TV, who is participating in what things this week, who is heading out for the weekend, etc., And sometimes we will discuss | | our students or problems or great things as well. It gives everyone a chance to see one another each day and to just spend social time together in what are usually busy, hectic days. Can a Principal enforce this? Probably not in the "legal" sense of things. But if some staff chose to ignore his request then they may find themselves locking horns with him more often. And really is it that difficult to make an appearance for a short while during lunch just to say hi to one's colleagues and visit for awhile. I doubt you'd have to sit there the entire lunch break, but why not enjoy a few moments away from your classroom.
