Bad paras...
By Peggy2

Clip to ScrapBook
I am an aide, and work under the flip side of your situation. The person I work with expects me to do anything and everything and often neglects her duties because she knows I will do the job if she procrastinates. I guess
it can go both ways.

I would suggest a meeting with your paras to outline each duty they are expected to do. Don't ask them to do anything you wouldn't do if the need arose, but strongly emphasize that they are part of a team and that the welfare of the children is your prime concern.

Help them to feel that they are valued members of your classroom. Often aides are completely

overlooked concerning the work they do. . .I often feel invisible. The woman I work with often comes in late, leaves early, runs errands on school time, and refuses to get a sub when she is going to be gone. I feel I work in an extreme circumatance, but I have decided I will never overlook a paraprofessional who does the job and does it well. I guess there are bad apples in every barrel, it's just that some of us have to deal with them on a daily basis.

Good luck with your situation.
