equiv. fractions
By Nancy

Clip to ScrapBook
I start off very basic... fold a piece of large construction paper in halves and color in one half. (I trace over the fold lines as I go to make it easier to see.) Write 1/2 on the board. Then fold the paper a again... trace over new fold lines... The new fraction is 2/4... Then fold again... The new fraction is 4/8. Continue on as long as you can fold the paper. Each time writing the fractions on the board saying 1/2 = 2/4 = 4/8... It really seems to help them understand the concept.
