Have your students weigh their rocks as a math activity. They can either compare two rocks on a balance scale or actually weigh rocks and write down the results. They can predict which they believe will be heavier. You
don't say what grade level, but they could also count and group rocks if that's appropriate for their grade level. Or use rocks to make math story problems.

For social studies you can read more than one version of the Stone Soup story. Compare and contrast the stories. Talk about how culture might make a difference in the versions. Have students create their own version using their

own special cultural icons. For example, the people in the original story are usually travelling soldiers. Perhaps your students could write the story using some other type of travelling people. (In our area we would write about migrant workers, for example.) Have students make a list of things it's appropriate to share with others and things that wouldn't be so appropriate...you could share food, but you probably don't want to share your underwear...
