I wonder though

Clip to ScrapBook
How many of us in High School saw our teacher's as sharing valuable life changing information with us.

While I truly believe some teachers can change the lives of some students, the majority of influence is still the family.
If a student has parents who put education on top, who encourage their child and set expectations, then teachers have much easier jobs.

I remember not enjoying all my classes in High School and not being ready to think about my future. I did work for awhile before going to University and it was my "first jobs" that taught me to appreciate what education could do for me. But I also

finished my grade 12 and my family was a big reason for this.

And some students have so much stacked against them to begin with. Hopefully they will always have a teacher who is willing to take a chance on them even when they don't seem to appreciate the effort. If we encouraged some of these children to leave school to "experience the real world" they probably would never dig their way back to school again.

However the students whom this might benefit and work for are those who do come from good families, who fool around and think everything should be just handed to them. A dose of reality for a year or two might just motivate them the right way.
