I was pregnant my first year
By Jackie

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi! I was pregnant my first year of teaching. But I found out about it at the end of March. I am actually on materninty leave right now

Anyhow, I had terrible morning (all day) sickness and a terrible class.
It was hard and I was tired. But I did it, you will too becuase "you have to." I started last December so I was only at school for a few months before I had to announce I would be needing materninty leave. This made me worry becaue I thought "oh here I am a new teacher and already leaving." But thankfully everyone was thrilled for me and very supportive.

When I started this

school year it was still new for me (because I started in Dec.) So I was learing how to teach and being big and pregnant. But being on my feet all day actully helped me to keep healthy and active. I didn't have any swelling problems- which is something you will wnat to think about. Also, I didn't gain alot of weight so i didn't have back problems- again something you will want to think about. I am starting to ramble LOL However, keep in mind that your first year of teaching you will get sick! a lot! Being pregnant and sick is not fun... also I developed some serious illnesses from and needed medication. They were safe for the baby but you want to avoid meds if possible.

My advice to you is go for it. However, if you can time it that you concieve towards the end of the school year I would try for that. That way you do have some time in before you need to announce you need to leave and you get experience for when you come back. Good luck and enjoy.
