re: help with reading strategies By Naomi

Yipes. I'm a little concerned that your rsp teacher put him back into your room unilaterally. These types of decisions are to be made as a team. But I'm sure you've already considered that...here are a few things you might| try: how about getting a copy of the book you're reading as a class on tape, so he can listen to it at home, before the class reads it. Previewing is a very important strategy. It deals with both the vocabulary and decoding pieces at the same time, not to mention comprehension. If he's able to have read it by the time your class does, he'll be able to hear it again, allowing for | | a comprehension lag. Your request is anything but silly, and in my opinion you should at least know what he did in the resource room so you can decide what you could do to provide him with something that looks remotely like what he's used to. Just think...if you're this concerned, what do you think he's feeling??? Good luck!
