I have never heard of such a thing. My school does them in the upper grades but not in K5! Do your students even understnad what a conference is? Are they ABLE to lead a conference? I am not opposed to them attending, in fact THAT is a good idea, but to have them lead seems a stretch. Maybe I am not understanding exactly what you are doing, so forgive me if I am misunderstood. I just think a conference should be lead by YOU the teacher. The attendace of the child is still iffy for me - but to ask them to have any part in the conference other than to answer any quesitons about thier progress is a bit out there for me.
