Reading at Night.
By RebeccaH

Clip to ScrapBook
I teach a year 1/2 class and I send home a reading book and signer each night. The children read a book that is reasonably easy for them. I expect the parents to sign each night. In the morning the children come intot he
classroom 15 minutes early and read to me or a parent and this has to be signed as a Morning Listener. I have on the back of my signer a short story/note that explains what happens if they do 20 minutes reading each night compared to doing none. I got it somewhere off the net. It is fantastic. The children and I went over it in class. At my parent meeting I went over it with the parents.
The figures really showed the difference. But I think it depends on the area you are working in. If the parents aren't going to repond could you spend the last 10 minutes of each day with the children reading to a partner or 10 minutes during the day with an older class.
