Ups&Downs of Kindergarten By Allison

Your message caught my eye since we share the same name, and since I am new in the teaching field as well. This is my first year teaching kindergarten ( I taught first grade for two years prior and that is where I did my| student teaching). I loved first grade, and having to switch to kindergarten was tough for the first few months. I would be lying if I said I wasn't stressed out often. It is alot of classroom management (and you have to have a strong plan in place), and alot of repeating directions, and telling kids what to do one-on-one, and quite a bit of "prep" work, since they can't do somethings | | themselves. Part of my stress, however, is that I have 25 kids in both classes (I teach am and pm kindergarten), and having to deal with 50 kids and double the parents is a tough one! So is the double prep work. I would love all day kindergarten class, and I am sure it would be much easier to manage. So it depends where you're from and what the school has to offer for kindergarten programs. On the "Up" side, these kids LOVE their teacher! They are so cute, and innocent (most of them, and they love coming to school. It really is rewarding to get hugs and be able to teach them how "school" works. You set the foundation for them to build on and it is truly amazing how they grow in just one year, and are reading, writing, counting, telling time, and adding numbers. Kindergarten is challenging, but fun and rewarding too. Good luck with your teaching endeavors and contact me if you would like to chat further!
