I think that this approach would work as long as the groups were all at the same reading level. I found a great website that has comprehension, vocabulary, and activities for a bunch of Magic Tree House books. It saved me a lot of time and or money preparing questions myself. The Magic Tree House website has information on Mary Pope Osborne. YOu could do an author study as well. When the kids have read a couple of the books, you could have them do a ven diagram to compare and contrast the books.
