Clip to ScrapBook
What surprised me was that my fourth grade students knew and were also sadden by Mr. Rogers death. I didn't think they would even realize who he was (I thought they would have been more influenced by teletubbies and barney).
But on the flip side, it made me realize how ONE person made such a difference in sooo many lives. He could of easily decided to be a minister in his own community (which is not a bad thing), but instead took a risk and made watching t.v. actually educational, and reached many people outside his community. Even though I never met this man, I felt like he cared about me and wanted
me to do the best that I could. Even my corporate friends were sadden by the news of his death. It helps me realize that the job we do reaches past just the nine months we teach our children. Maybe we DO reach and guide and inspire more than we actually get thanked for. May he rest in peace, and may he continue to inspire us to realize that we educators are important and we do make a difference.
