We are in our second year with Harcourt. I teach fifth grade. We chose it because it closely matches up with our South Carolina standards. I like it, but it doesn't have all of our standards in it. Your adoption will
depend upon how it aligns with your district's or state's particular curriculum needs.
The Harcourt series has accompanying video tapes that demonstrate to kids how to do investigations, so that when you go to do them, they are ready. They also have videos made by CNN which are interesting. The textbook has suggestions for integrating other areas, such as language arts and mathematics.

It provides lessons on cause/effect and main idea, for example. Graphing is featured, also.
