Substitute's tactics By Sub-in-Control
|
|
First let me say that I feel badly that you came back to such an upheaval. I am a certified teacher currently substituting due to lack of positions in my area. I understand completely that many permanent classroom teachers| feel an obligation to speak to their students about what is expected of them when they have a substitute and what consequences they may encounter upon their teacher's return. However, on the other hand...a good substitute should know how to handle just about any issue that arises and if not, then there is always someone in the school who can offer advice/assistance. I can't imagine | | ever having any class I sub in get so out of control that the regular teacher has to come back to the mess that it appears you had to. Also, an experienced sub should never, never put up with students refusing to do their assignments; like I said go to someone outside the classroom if it's too much to handle and get assistance. I don't feel it's entirely up to you to come up with ideas on how to get your students to cooperate when they have a substitute; The substitute should be able to handle this. There are plenty of tactics and websites for substitutes and permanent teachers to go for advice/information. If a sub has an area that they are not polished in then they should seek out information that will enhance their abilities.
