My name is Sharon. Cathy is correct! Having on-line friends is nice especially if you are isolated and feeling a bit lonely. I know! Cathy was the first person to make me feel welcome when I took a job near
I am in a very interesting point in my career. I know that if I stay too long with only Reserve schools then I will probably not be hirable for a public board. (Too high on the grid...) Also we need to be some where that allows my husband to be employeed too. Not a lot of work in isolated areas. I also have had a huge problem with the attendance issue as Cathy mentioned. I had to realize that I can only focus on the students who are regulars and when a stray comes back we take it one day at a time. I can't do more then that from where I am. Home support can also be difficult too but sometimes you have to be creative. Communication with the home is my most important tool. I think it would be no matter where I was teaching. I do beleive that, "It takes a whole village to rasie a child." I, the teacher, can not do it alone. There are pros and cons and you just have to make that list and see what works for you and what's available at the time. I still feel that a lot of things in Life are about being at the right place at the right time. What grade do you teach? Are there other team members for your grade level? I know that is important for me. I like to work with a "team" and share ideas and materials. If I don't have support from my co-workers then it is difficult to go into work everyday and be in that kind of environment no matter where you work! Take care. Also feel free to E-mail me privately if you need a person to chat with as well. I love to chit-chat too! sdwl PS: I've thought that we maybe should have a Board on proteacher for Reserve Schools in Canada. What do you think? PPS: Can you let us know when CBC is airing this, I'd like to take a look at it myself.
