Social Studies vocab
By Rob

Clip to ScrapBook
I teach Social Studies for 2 fourth grade classes. I agree with you that it is important to quiz them on vocab. At our school, we have a program called "Worksheet Magic" - which allows you to make tests, review sheets,
puzzles, etc... Anyways, here is what I do-
As we go through our chapters, I really stress the words and make sure they understand them at the time of our discussion (the teacher I work with usually starts off a chapter by having them write all of the words with their definitions --I don't). Then, at the end of a chapter, I assign a fill in the blank review sheet. The next day we trade
and grade the review sheet and I record the grade, sending the review sheet home (with the wrong answers corrected) to study for the next days test. The test questions look exactly like the review sheet (although later in the year I start to mix them around in a different order once they get a feeling for the tests). Once they get used to the tests and into a routine of studying for them, they seem to do pretty well. To answer your question, I would not give them 10-14 days to study - I really don't think they need that long. I give mine about two days and they usually do very good. Hope this helps!
