Too many points By Rusty

I use a point system. To me it is easier to figure out than percentages. I aggree a 132 is high. To make a very long story short. I typicaly assign a sixweeks project every sixweeks to go with the major lesson unit| that I am covering during each sixweeks period. I asked my students to read an summarize 10 article about the Federal Government. I didn't think it was too hard. I talked to a 27 year veteran Social Studies teacher that I worked with for a while and she liked my idea and agreed that it wasn't too hard. About 2 1/2 weeks after the project was assigned I had a meeting with my new Principal | | and VP. They informed me that there had been complaint, and after discussing the project I agreed to reduce the requirement to 5 article. I told them that for those who do more than the 5 I would give bonus points for each article, 20 bonus points. This made everybody happy except me because I was forced to lower my standards. ( But that is another issue) As a whole it did work. My lower ablilty students who struggle were able to do well with the redone project and bonus points. It was my overacheivers that made 100's on the tests while getting the bonus questions correct as well. They just earned every possible point. I am just as proud of my overacheivers as my strugglers. I just wish parents would come and talk to the teacher about a problem first instead of running to the principal. As I said earlier another complaint for another time.
