multi level word wall using picture cues
By Danyelle

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi, I teach a K-2 autistic support classroom. My students are moderate to high functioning. Their reading levels range from pre-k to 2nd grade. I color code the words. For each grade level list, I use a different color
sentence stip. (EX. all k words are written on orange, all 1st grade words are written on yellow, all 2nd grade words are written on blue.) I used colors corresponding with the colors of the reading series and readers. I wrote the words on the sententence strips and laminated them. I used writing with symbols to make picture cues for the words. The visual has the word written under
the picture. I laminated the pictures and used velcro to attatch the symbols to the sentence strips. This way you can remove the pictures to review with words only. Also, the kids can go up to the wall and take pictures w/ words to their seat to assist in writing activities. We also review by matching the pictures to the word strips. I like it and it seems to work for my students. Good luck!!
