Saving Paper

Clip to ScrapBook
We also print on the backs. Many of our kids then ask, "Can we do the back?" These have a better completion rate than the assigned side (for 6th graders no less!) but oh well.

When a lot of teachers retire, they have tons
of old WS's in their room. This helps others see that you are doing your best to recycle.

Are you expecting a need to cut back on copier use or just the paper?

Put math questions on the top half, the next subject at the bottom and then cut in half with Friskars or with a wavy cut. Anything to make the kids think that it is different.

I find that many of my kids expect a WS in

every class or else something is not important. Instead, I teach kids to make their own graphic organizers in their notes. Have them make up a "WS" for the assignment (takes 10-15 min.) and then exchange for homework. You can see if the kids understand or are just blindly copying what everyone else is doing (ex: kids who write story problems without all of the info may not know how to find important info in the problem; kids who create subtraction problems that are "backwards"--in the primary grades--can help you stop a bad habit before it is too difficult to do).
