Eating in the classroom
By JPS

Clip to ScrapBook
While I totally understand that we certainly have the right to do certain things, I feel this goes back to teaching by example. One of the things students want to know far above anything else is that they will be treated
fairly. I would not expect my students to do things that I would not do myself. On the other hand, I would not be surprised if my students modeled my behavior and felt it unfair if I were awarded special privileges they were not.

I would never think negatively of a teacher who does this because heaven knows that our job entitles us to special things. Also, sometimes you will do things

that do not seem fair to the students, I have and that is just the way it is. However, if the students are required and are able to wait until lunch, then I can also do the same. I try to always model the behavior and actions I expect from my students.

I suppose along with giving my opinion I should say that we are free to eat and drink as we please in the class. I see others doing so occasionally but have never heard any type of negative discussion over it.
