First Graders Too
By Teacher

Clip to ScrapBook
I know exactly how you feel. I have first graders taking home homework at night, and I feel it is really important. It is usually working on reading or phonics, or spelling. I have some students who don't bring it in, and
is it really thier fault. The parents need to be checking their homework notebook too. I have sent letters and called, but to no avail. I even created this sheet to go home with students and their leveled readers. I asked the parents to record one of three books that went home, and to let me know if it was too easy, too hard, or just right. And only one of my parents ever sent it back.
So I stopped doing it. I have the lowest first graders, and if the parents can't even bother to fill in a paper about one book, what am I supposed to do. You can't fit it all in during the day. Sometimes, there has to be homework. I wihs I knew a way to get my kids to do their work. Rewards really have not done the trick.
