Jodi, What grade do you teach? I teach 2 grade and before my class begins, you need to teach the parts of speech and how to make a simple setence better. For instance, write,"The dog ran." explaining tat is is a sent. but it needs to be made longer. By asking the who, what , why, which, when and how a sentence could be expanded. Play a game. THe small dog ran. Then, "THe small, spotted dog ran, where, he ran into the big park, etc . They will get the idea before long. Read, Dear Mr. Blueberry and have the children make an accordian book. They will write jusst like the story and they will make sure the sent. have a lot in them to be accepted. They need to use adjective, nouns, verbs to make it exciting
