TAKS
By JR

Clip to ScrapBook
We are the parents of a bright A&B 3rd grade student who used to love school. He simply doesn't perform well on standardized tests (we think he's not mature enough in at this point).

We privately bought the ECS TaksMaster
to supplement what he's doing in school and all it has caused is frustration. He passed the first "pre-test" (whatever that was)by one question. Since he's our only child, we have really had time to spend focusing on helping him prepare since 1/1/03. At this point we are now taking the position that we are souring his desire to learn by bombarding him with practice tests and making
school a drag.

Screw the TAKS, if he doesn't pass, we'll just fight it at the administration level (the infamous 3rd stage teacher/parent/ principal conference)and argue his A & B grades. 4th grade won't count and if he doesn't pass 5th grade TAKS, big friggin' deal...we're off to private school anyway for 6-8th.

By high school, he'll be mature enough to handle these pressures. We really feel sorry for our son's teacher. She's really great and is now rendered ineffective as we have essentially begun home schooling (2 hrs homework nightly)her normal desired cirriculum because she's busy teaching some mindless state- mandated test!

Can some Texas academic historian explain how all this crap happened????
