community helpers

I am also on practicum in grade 1 and am about to start a community helpers unit. I hope to have a community police officer or fire fighter come in to speak to the class. One fun idea I have is a role play, where students in groups of three are given a card with a profession and some of the jobs these people have. Each group must act their profession out for the class. The class has to try to guess who/what each group represents. Props are also an option. Good luck, and please share any more ideas you have
