Clip to ScrapBook
I have a VERY difficult class this year too! I hear you completly. I teach second grade and ahhh... I have 23 kids. I have 9 of my children on individual home journals, with behavior mods. Its crazy. Not to mention that half
my class came to me reading at a K level. HOW DID they pass first? I have been trying to make the most of it. Just tell myself you can only do so much. But..its hard. Many of my challenged kids are also my challenged behavior kids...so its two fold. Anyway, hang in there. There is only one of you and you can only try your best. I just keep trying different class management strategies.
Many work with some...some work with a few...and a few work with one or two.
A few good ones I use... just FYI..
1. If you can hear me clap once...
I say this if they are chatting and I need their attention... its usually works without yelling or screaming
2. I will count down...by the time I get to 1 please have ( and give the task..name on paper ect) 10, 9, 8... I find it gives some of my less focused a goal...
3. I tell them to use the ruler voice. I shouldnt be able to hear them more than 1 foot 12 inches away. and I charge them incentive points for noise pollution.
Good luck!
Keep smiling!
