foster kid

Hi,

I agree with the last poster that seeking out help from your fellow teachers to find a safe place when things are going wild is a very good idea.

One caution: you may not be allowed to videotape because of confidentiality
issues. The foster system has tons of rules you have never heard of. Do you know that in my state, foster parents have to get permission from the real parents or the caseworker to get a haircut for the child? Also, the school and foster parent may know almost nothing about the child and the large inner cities move slowly on getting help for these kids. The caseworkers tend
to be very nice young women with almost no experience and they don't understand the full degree of trauma these kids have gone through.

Try to seek help but be kind to yourself. As you drive home, think of all your great kids one by one! These foster kids are in crisis and the suggestion to try to have lunch together is a good one, but try not to give too much advice- just listen. You probably know 5% of the story.

Connie
