5th grade
By Susan

Clip to ScrapBook
Welcome to 5th, Jo! I love it myself. It took me a while to get the hang of the schedule (this is my 1st year in 5th grade), but now I love how it's working out. This is basically how I do it:
7:45-8:10 - Bellringer
(handwriting, journal, or math drills)then SSR (silent reading)
8:10-9:10 - "power hour" - ability grouped reading - a lot of novel studies, vocabulary, comprehension skills, etc...
9:10-10:05- math
10:05-10:30 - language arts
10:30-12:00 - recess, PE, library, lunch, etc...
12:00-1:00- reading - use the basal here and sometimes social studies and science texts.
1:00-1:35
- science
1:35-2:15 - social studies
2:15- pack up to go home and I read to them for 10 minutes or so.

Of course you can always do cross-curricular stuff along with a set schedule!
