Be careful not to judge too harshly By Cathy-Dee

Unless you are actually in the classroom of the vast majority of teachers you can't really say for certain that all they are doing is teaching out of textbooks. I know many dedicated, enthusiastic teachers myself who are| great educators. When it comes to marking and testing, unfortunately sometimes we do have to resort to a lot of these paper tests because parents expect them. It's not always easy to change the mind-frame of a group of people. And as far as having high school students mark tests I know many teachers who have this done - however they also do a quick check of each test as well for any | | obvious errors. 1 or 2 errors is not going to make a huge difference in most cases. I also know many teachers (single ones or ones without children) who do spend many hours preparing lessons, etc., I'm one of those teachers. But once you have other people involved (a family) it is not always as easy to put in all the time and energy to be as creative. I am glad we do have so many dedicated and yes passionate teachers around. Teaching is not the easiest career and many do burn out after a few years because of all the energy they put into their job. One can also be passionate about something without putting everything into it. I've learned over the last few years that it is also important to be passionate about other things too. This keeps you balanced and able to focus on what is important.
